Timeline Activity

a- Choose an actor or an actress (any actor or from the list) and make a timeline indicating his/her films and his/her awards using the simple past and present perfect.

b- After making the timeline, present your work in front of the whole class and tell your classmates who your actor/actress is.

PRESENT PERFECT

Using Present prefect:

We use the Present Perfect to say that an action happened at an unspecified time before now. The exact time is not important. You CANNOT use the Present Perfect with specific time expressions such as: yesterday, one year ago, last week, when I was a child, when I lived in Japan, at that moment, that day, one day, etc. We CAN use the Present Perfect with unspecific expressions such as: ever, never, once, many times, several times, before, so far, already, yet, etc.







Examples:

· I have seen that movie twenty times.
· I think I have met him once before.
· He has been described as one of the biggest movie star in Hollywood.
· He has received four Golden Globe Award nominations.

PAST SIMPLE

Using Past Simple:


We use the Simple Past to express the idea that an action started and finished at a specific time in the past.






Examples:

· Jim Carrey was born on January 17, 1962.
· Jim Carrey performed “stand comedy shows”.
· Rodney D. Field took him to Las Vegas.
· His first movies were "Ace Ventura, Pet Detective (1994) and "Dumb & Dumber" (1994).

Types of genres:
-Thriller (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thriller_(genre) is a film genre that uses suspense, excitement and tension as the main elements. It keeps the audience alert and on the edge of their seats. The protagonist of these films is set against a problem an escape or a mystery and it emphizes the danger that the protagonist faces.  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMba3fckhuQ) “The Da Vinci Code” 2006.

-Horror (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horror_film) is a film genre that plays with the negative emotional reaction from the viewers. It seeks their nightmares, hidden fears and terror of the unknown. It also includes demons, vampires, monsters, curses and serial killers. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDGw1MTEe9k) “The exorcist" 1973.

-Comedy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comedic_genres) is a film genre that uses the humor as a source. The aim of the comedy is laughter from the audience through entertaining stories and characters. It can be divided into multiple sub-genres.

-Action http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_film is a film genre that puts one or many heroes in difficult situations as fights, frenetic chases that require physical challenges to achieve victory. -Romantic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romantic_film) is a film genre that travels the intricate side of love. The plot usually revolves obstacles between two people.
